GENTLE BONNIE SMITH

(Kirchhoff) 28" EE Re Ex Sev 6 ¾". The colors are
delicate, dancing, like lemonade-to-cream-blushed-peach clouds, haloed
in pink and punctuated by yellow to green throats. Truly, this is among
the loveliest early pastel daylilies, an early morning opener, and the
first large-flower of the season. The blooms are just as beautiful on
the fourth set of rebloom scapes as the first. The color and substance
remain crisp throughout the day. The form is circular, extremely full
and widespread, displaying three and one half inch wide, round, overlapped,
and lightly ruffled petals to perfection. The strongly recurrent scapes
have 3-5 way branching, and hold 30 or more buds. It is both pod and
pollen fertile and a fine parent. Selected by Mary Joyce Andrews from
Panama City, FL, whose mother, known to all as Gentle Bonnie Smith,
didn't make her traditional trek to Daylily World this year. We missed
her cheer and hope she'll be visiting again soon.
