KAY DAY*

(Kirchhoff) 29" E RE EX FR EV. 5 - 5 1/2"
Named for one of the "first ladies of daylilies," whose tireless
efforts to promote daylilies and daylily people are that of which legends
are made. We hesitate to employ the word, "quintessential" in
describing this favorite of ours', though in many ways KAY DAY is quintessential
in many ways. Along with JERRY PATE WILLIAMS, this daylily is the most
widely used double parent we've ever produced. Its maiden bloom thrilled
us more than any maiden bloom we've ever seen on a double flowered daylily.
The form is thrilling - and the color is mesmerizing. The color is a beautiful
blend of coral pink and rose with a green heart. The petaloid form is
full, widespread, overlapped and extravagantly ruffled. A narrow gold
edge enhances the ruffles. Texture is smooth. The strongly recurrent scapes
are branched three ways and average twenty-four buds (here). A paragon,
it has produced our most exciting double seedlings in nearly every color.
KAY DAY is a strong grower of moderate increase. Stock is so limited that
only a few plants available for delivery in 2004 - unless it increases
dramatically in the meantime. Jerry Pate Williams X Tet Virginia Franklin
