WINE STAR

Morss. 30'' EM RE EX EV 6 1/4''. Blooms are rich, dark wine-purple
with leathery substance and ruffled petals. Form is shaped like a six-pointed
star - flat, widespread and overlapped. The triangular shaped throat
is a strong orange yellow with a chartreuse suffusion at the heart.
The edges of the petals are flecked with white as are on the sepals.
As the season unfolds, the petals become more crispate in appearance,
as does the white edging and a pinch at the throat. The pods are hard
to achieve, though we have managed a few each year. This flower has
a high distinction value in form, color, sun fastness and presence in
the garden. The strongly recurrent scapes have 3 way branching and 15-20
buds. Seedlings are often UFO's. Powerful pollen, reluctant pods. (FORTUNE'S
