Greetings from Daylily World
Greetings from Daylily World!
Thank you for making 2004 a terrific year for us here at
Daylily World. We hope this finds you in good health and we are looking
forward to serving you again this year. As daylily friend and daylily
connoisseur Kay Day says, "People come to daylilies for the flower,
but often they continue because of the friends they make through daylilies."
In 2002, we enjoyed researching the history of double daylilies
and writing a chapter to be included in The New Daylily Handbook, published
by The American Hemerocallis Society. The editors changed it just a little.
The following excerpt was edited out of the book. This excerpt deals with
the legend of Lady Wu, a mythical Korean princess who lived 150 years
B.C. It said, "Legend has it that centuries ago, Lady Wu, while meditating
upon the beauty of Hemerocallis Flore Pleno, became so absorbed that she
didn't realize a violent storm was approaching. A bolt of lightening struck
the daylily just as Lady Wu achieved a state of nirvana. At this moment
the legend says, the double daylily 'Hemerocallis'Kwanso' was born."
Double daylilies now rival single daylilies in every way. For over 30
years, we have worked to improve the form of doubles. Now they speak for
themselves.
Speaking of spring 2005, don't forget that there are two
daylily events in Central FL. The Sunbelt Chapter is hosting "Daylily
Mecca" in the area, May 6 and May 7, 2005. The Central Florida Hemerocallis
Society is hosting a show at Orlando's beautiful Leu Gardens on May 14
- with more events being planned. These events promise to be wonderful,
so try to come. While here, please stop by. We love company!
Come join us and enjoy another bumper crop of new daylily
seedlings. We enjoy your visits. Peak bloom occurs from May 1 - 30. Please
check with us a week or two ahead to see when exact peak is expected.
It often lasts 2 weeks and sometimes we enjoy "peak" two or
three times in a season. The garden will be open beginning April 15. Garden
hours are 10:30 - 1:30, Wednesday to Sunday - although if you can't make
it during those hours, please call and we'll give you a special tour.
The garden closes except by appointment after June 1.
The longevity of our company is directly related to having
outstanding plants and striving for complete, total customer satisfaction.
Without either, we would have been gone long ago. With very few exceptions
- those being the newest of the new and the rarest of the rare - the plants
are a minimum of two fans. Often they are more. We strive to furnish exactly
what you request, when you request it - and offer among the largest variety
and selections of daylilies in the United States.
Glorious Gardening,
David and Mort
